Student Development Program - Case Study

Asian Business School, Noida organized a Student Development Program titled “From Problem to Profit: Mastering the Art of Case Analysis” on Thursday, 29th January 2026 at the ABS Campus under the aegis of the Research & Development Cell (RDC). The program was conceptualized to enhance students’ analytical thinking, structured reasoning, and managerial decision-making abilities in alignment with contemporary corporate expectations.

The workshop was designed to shift students from traditional descriptive learning towards practical problem-oriented thinking. The session emphasized that in real professional environments, managers are rarely provided with clear-cut problems or predefined solutions. Instead, they are required to operate under uncertainty, incomplete information, and conflicting stakeholder interests, making structured thinking a critical managerial competency.

The program was conducted by Dr. Priyanka Arora, Assistant Professor and Member – RDC, Asian Business School, who acted as the resource person for the session. She introduced students to the CASE–DECIDE framework as a systematic approach for analysing business situations. The framework guided students through understanding context, identifying core problems, mapping stakeholders, evaluating alternatives, choosing appropriate strategies, planning implementation, and assessing outcomes and risks.

Throughout the session, students were encouraged to differentiate between visible symptoms and underlying root causes of organizational challenges. Special focus was placed on developing multiple strategic alternatives and justifying decisions using logical reasoning rather than assumptions. The session also highlighted the importance of considering human, financial, and operational implications while making managerial decisions.

The pedagogical approach was interactive and reflective, combining conceptual explanation with real-world examples and scenario-based discussions. Students actively participated in decision-defense exercises, where they were required to articulate and defend their recommendations, thereby enhancing their confidence, communication skills, and professional judgment.

The workshop significantly contributed to strengthening students’ analytical orientation, critical thinking, and decision-making capabilities. Participants reported improved clarity in approaching case studies, better understanding of managerial roles, and greater preparedness for case-based interviews and professional responsibilities.

The Student Development Program successfully aligned academic learning with real-world managerial practices. It reinforced the importance of structured thinking, strategic clarity, and responsible decision-making in today’s dynamic business environment, making the session a valuable learning experience for the students of Asian Business School.
