Why an Internship?
May 21, 2015It’s been approximately one week since the PGDM 14-16 students joined various organizations for their Summer Internship Program. Here are some of the reasons why an Internship is highly crucial for a management student.
- Hands-on Experience: An internship offers you an opportunity to apply the knowledge that you have gained during class room training. This enables you to identify and enhance your core skills and learn how to apply them in the work place.
- Learn from the Pro’s: An internship provides you an opportunity to connect and learn from the people who have been working in the industry. It provides you an insight as to how things are handled in the field. This helps you become a better professional.
- Develop Employability Skills: Employability skills are those basic skills necessary for getting, keeping, and doing well on a job. Gain work related skills that employer’s value. The ability to think, reason and make sound decisions is crucial for employees desiring to do well and advance. Post an internship, you will view yourself as someone who will take ownership for their actions and will be accountable for the work allocated to you.
- Enhanced Interpersonal Skills: Interpersonal skills are the skills we use to interact with other people. Good interpersonal skills allow you to participate effectively as a member of a team, satisfy customers and clients’ expectations, negotiate, make decisions, manage your time efficiently, take responsibility, and work effectively with other employees. These skills you will develop and enhance during your internship and this will help you become a better professional.
Employers generally view internship programs as the best path for hiring entry level candidates. Not only do you gain valuable understanding of the specialization you undertake, it also provides you an opportunity to apply the knowledge you gained in a classroom environment.
Keep the focus, and Keep Learning. We wish you good luck.
